2. Frosh/Soph defeats Peninsula 2-0. Coach Senkbeil said, "We are starting to work well as a team. It's exciting seeing our passes getting connected."

3. Thanks to McKeegan, Mira Costa girls soccer team streaks on
Midfielder scores both goals against Peninsula in Mustangs' 17th consecutive victory.
Mandy McKeegan knew Friday afternoon's Bay League showdown at Peninsula could be the defining moment for a young Mira Costa girls soccer team.
So McKeegan went to work.
McKeegan made two spectacular runs to free herself for two of Mira Costa's most important goals of the season in a 2-1 win.
It gave Mira Costa (17-1, 4-0) its 17th consecutive win following a season-opening 1-0 loss to Santa Monica.
"This was a big game because it was going to determine who was going to be on the top of the Bay League," said McKeegan, a sophomore midfielder. "I'm glad we pulled it off."
McKeegan's first run came in the midst of a Peninsula-dominated first half.
Sophomore forward Kimby Keever sent a perfect pass to McKeegan, who finished beautifully for a 1-0 lead.
"She was making such a long run, I wanted to reward her for it," Keever said.
McKeegan's second goal was just as spectacular, breaking a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute.
Sophomore Megan Mahoney connected with junior Melina Cohen. Then Cohen found a streaking McKeegan making a wide run down the left side of the field for the tiebreaker.
"We were fired up today," Cohen said. "We're a young team with just two seniors, but we have bonded well and everyone likes each other.
"Jojo (Mahoney) got me the ball, I got my head up and gave it to Amanda. Her goal was like a bullet."
It went straight through the hearts of a talented and skilled Peninsula team that also views itself as a Bay League title contender.
Peninsula controlled possession throughout the first half, but was fortunate to even come away tied at the half.
Tori Buda found the corner of the net for the equalizer, just seconds before the officials blew the halftime whistle.
"When you dominate as much as we did in the first half, you expect a better result," Peninsula coach Scotte Massey said. "We had control of the first half. It shouldn't have been 1-1.
"We had them against the wall for 40 minutes."
It might start becoming a mind game for Peninsula (12-2-3, 3-1). The Panthers' only two losses of the season came at the hands of the Mustangs.
Mira Costa posted a 3-1 victory over Peninsula in the South Torrance Tournament final on Dec. 19, though it didn't count toward the Bay League standings.
Though Peninsula was stronger in this matchup, Mira Costa is trying to establish itself as the South Bay's premier team.
"We're trying not to let it get to our heads," McKeegan said. "We need to keep playing well. The second half of the Bay League is not going to be easy."
Mira Costa closes the first half of Bay League play on Tuesday against Palos Verdes, and Peninsula plays West Torrance in a key Bay League matchup The Peninsula-Mira Costa rematch is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Mira Costa."We've got to keep perspective," Massey said. "We're not worried about one loss. We're definitely looking forward to playing at Mira Costa. "At this point, it's still anybody's league."
