Costa vs. Palos Verdes High Varsity – loss 1-0, F/S – win 1-0, JV win – 2-1

47a5dc20b3127cce9854c81ed04300000035102AZMm7Vq5bM-Friday January 30 on a drizzly afternoon at Waller Stadium and with the AYSO ball girls on hand ready for action, the Costa girls took the field looking to avenge an earlier season loss to Palos Verdes. Unfortunately, Costa once again lost a close game 1-0 after dominating the action. Costa’s struggles continued with an inability to put the ball in the net despite a spirited team effort which saw them outplay and outhustle their Bay League foe.
Costa outshot PV in the first half by a significant margin with the best chances coming from Kendall Douglas (7th minute) and Hanna Watkins (24th minute). Costa’s prolific goal scorer McKenna Doyle sought to get on track once again and created three good chances, but just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. PV didn’t have a shot until the 30th minute, but unfortunately it slipped in for a goal after a terrific run down the right side of the pitch.

Costa did everything they could in the second half with one of their best efforts of the season, but came up short. Costa sought the equalizer and thought they had it in the 15th minute when Emile Flaig lofted a beautiful cross in front of the goal mouth to a streaking Emmie Farber who stretched as far as she could to beat the PV defender, but her header just sailed over the top of the cross bar. Costa continued to apply relentless pressure, but PV was able to withstand the assault led by their central defender. While Bay League title aspirations may be fleeting, Costa is well positioned to make the playoffs, especially with an important match at Peninsula on Tuesday.
