Girls teams WIN at Penn – Varsity, 3-2, JV 3-3, F/S 3-0

Unknown-19Costa needing a victory both psychologically and for Bay League standings took to the road in their vaunted black uniforms against Peninsula. An overall team effort lead by the lethal combination of McKenna Doyle’s three goals and Viviana Villacorta’s three assists resulted in an important and impressive 3-2 victory. As has been the case the last few games, Costa had a spirited effort and controlled much of the game. Unlike recent results, Costa was able to turn the effort into a victory. Costa had a few good earlier chances on shots by Olivia Vega (14th minute) and Gillian Henry (19th minute). Costa’s revamped attack seeking more through balls to space resulted in McKenna’s first goal in the 27th minute. McKenna broke through again on a nice pass from Viviana in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, both of Costa’s scores were quickly followed by Peninsula’s equalizers leading to a tie game at halftime.

Not to be discouraged, Costa again came out strong in the second half determined to put their back luck behind them. Costa’s defense stiffened to prevent any goals in the second half led by Reilly Edmonds, Emmie Farber and Caroline Keever. Costa peppered the goal most of the second half with great chances created by Allison Roth, Hailey Kay, Maya Serota and Kendall Douglas, to name a few. After so many near misses, McKenna broke through in the 30th minute to secure yet another hat trick and well-earned victory.

Costa seeks to continue the winning trend on Friday at Inglewood.
