MCHS Girls Varsity North Orange County Classic Tournament – Leads to Championship Game

Saturday December 27th @ 11:30 vs St. Joseph’s HS (Pool G): 6-0 Costa Win! McKenna Doyle put Costa ahead with 3 well-placed goals in the first 15 minutes of the match. Emmie Farber followed up with 2 goals in the 28th & 39th minutes and Delaney Whittet finished the Costa scoring with a goal with 5 minutes left for the 6-0 Costa win. St. Joseph’s HS was held to zero shots in this game dominated by Costa passing & possession.
Saturday December 27th @ 2:30 vs Estancia HS (Pool G): 3-0 Costa Win! Estancia HS kept it close for the majority of this match but accurate passing & tight defense gave Costa the upper hand. Outside defender Caroline Keever got Costa on the board with a nice finish after finding a cross in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Costa had several good chances but it wasn’t until the 54th minute that Danielle Major sent a perfect long diagonal cross to the far post that a streaking Arielle Sheres got a foot on to give Costa their insurance goal. Minutes later Vivianna Villacorta put the game to bed with a hard shot from 25 yards that found the top left back of the net sending Costa to the tournament quarterfinals.
Monday December 29th @ 11:00 vs El Modena HS (Quarterfinals): 5-0 Costa Win! Once again hard working & speedy McKenna Doyle broke through the El Modena HS defense to score her 1st of 3 goals in the 16th minute. Doyle added 2 more sweet goals off of Emelie Flaig passes for her 2nd “hat-trick” of the tournament in the 14th & 63rd minutes, giving Costa a commanding 3-0 lead late into the game. El Modena tested the Costa defense & keeper Nonie Frishette who recorded 7 saves in their 3rd consecutive shutout of the tournament. Jillian Henry converted a PK after Kendall Douglas was tripped from behind in the box in the 66th minute and just before the final whistle, Hanna Watkins headed in a corner kick from Douglas for the 5-0 Costa win.

Monday December 29th @ 5:00 vs LB Milikan HS (Semifinals): 1-1 (6-5 PK Costa Win)! In this semifinal match Costa had their hands full with a talented LB Milikan HS team as the momentum shifted back & forth between the 2 teams. Costa got the upper hand with a 1st half goal when Emelie Flaig unselfishly passed off to Emmie Farber who looped a shot into the goal over the charging Milikan keeper. The battle continued into the 2nd half until Costa had a hard time clearing a Milikan corner kick & the loose ball was eventually put in the net to tie the game in the 55th minute. Neither team could get the go ahead goal so PKs would decide who moved on to the championship match. A nice save by Costa keeper Nonie Frishette on Milikan’s 1st shooter gave Costa the edge but the 5th Costa PK sailed just over the bar to keep the PKs even. Milikan returned the favor in the 7th round of PKs when their shot went over the bar and Costa’s Kendall Douglas calmly put her shot past the diving keeper to give Costa a trip to the tournament finals & a chance to defend their 2013 NOCC Tournament Championship finish!

Scheduled: NOCC Tournament Championship at La Mirada HS Stadium, Tuesday December 30th @ 5:00 PM vs Cypress HS
