47a4cc32b3127cce9854b5566a5a00000015102AZMm7Vq5bM-In the initial minutes Costa appeared to be in for a tight game but in the 10th minute a Kendall Douglas corner kick was headed in by Hanna Watkins and the match’s outcome was never in doubt after that. Not long after, in the 14th minute, McKenna Doyle ran onto a pass into space, outran the defense & beat the keeper 1v1 with a low shot into the right side of the goal for what turned out to be the winning goal and a 2-0 lead. Costa again added a goal in the 22nd minute when Delaney Whittet put a lead pass onto the feet of a streaking Emelie Flaig who placed a low shot past the Marymount keeper for a 3-0 halftime lead. Marymount mounted some offense in the 2nd half forcing Costa Keeper, Nonie Frishette to make 2 great saves on short range blasts. In the 62nd minute the Costa defense was whistled for a hand ball in the penalty area and the Marymount shooter placed the ball low left just out of the reach of a diving Frishette to close the score to 3-1. This fired the Costa offense back up and in the final 10 minutes Doyle scored after collecting a cross from Whittet to make it 4-1, Arielle Sheres dribbled up field after a nice pass from Emmie Farber to score inside the near post and with under 3 minutes Farber received a lead pass from Douglas, carried it at the Marymount keeper and finished with a crossing shot inside the far post for the 6-1 Costa win. Next up for the Costa Varsity, after a well-deserved but short holiday break, is the defense of their 2013 championship at the North Orange County Classic HS Tournament starting 12/27.
