47a4cc27b3127cce9854b78e18f400000015102AZMm7Vq5bM-Saturday 12/6 @ 9:30 vs. Lawndale HS: It didn’t take long for the Costa team to take charge of the match with Emmie Faber notching the 1st Costa goal early in the opening half. Costa dominated the midfield which kept Lawndale back on their heels and produced numerous shots by the Costa attackers. 35 shots in the game for Costa with Lawndale unable to record a single shot due to the attack and a tough Costa back line. Costa found the back of the net 2 more times in the 1st half with goals by Vivianna Villacorta & Delaney Whittet for a 3-0 Costa halftime lead. More of the same in the 2nd half with goals by Emilie Flaig and a 2nd by Delaney Whittet gave Costa the 5-0 shutout.

Saturday 12/6 @ 3:30 vs. Ventura HS: Expecting a little more challenging 2nd game of the day after Ventura HS beat Lawndale HS 3-0, the Costa team quickly found their stride after Ventura tried unsuccessfully to get off to a quick start. Once again a strong Costa defense coupled with accurate passing allowed the midfield & forwards to quickly gain the upper hand throughout the match. Once Kendall Douglas put Costa ahead 1-0, it was “Happy Holidays” as Costa added 4 more 1st half goals with Vivianna Villacorta drilling one from outside, Arielle Sheres cleaning up loose balls twice and Hannah Watkins placing a 25 yard direct kick into the top right corner of the goal for a 5-0 halftime lead. Hannah got her 2nd goal of the match in the 2nd half to seal the 6-0 Costa win. Costa finished the game with 21 shots and Ventura’s only 2 shots, while on frame, where turned away with diving saves by Costa keeper, Nonie Frishette.

The two Costa wins advances the Varsity to the South Holiday Tournament’s Quarterfinals with an 8 AM match vs Lakewood at South HS’s Stadium field on 12/13 likely followed by a Semi-Final match at 3:30 (or a 2:00 consolation match) later that day. 2 wins on 12/13 puts Costa in the Championship match on 12/15 at 7:30 PM South Torrance HS.
